Hi all I am new to this site…but I love tea! I have been researching Yixing pots for a few months now, I live in northern Canada and their are no stores to purchase or go in and look and feel actual clay pots, I have to order online which is not my preference. However I have heard some good reviews about Music City Tea and I have found a really nice tea set with a pot, ocean and some cups for about $90 with shipping about $120. I am not overly concerned that the clay is actually from a certain region, I just want the basics, BUT I am concerned with the harmful extras in cheaper pots that may not be good for me, especially using everyday and heating and pouring hot liquid over time. I will include the link of the set I am looking at, it doesn’t look glazed, and looks like a nice basic clay tea pot. I won’t spend upwards of $700 on a tea pot (yet), but I do want one that will absorb the tea smell over time and change its shade and/or colour.

It comes with a nice bamboo tray, to me it looks great, but any advice would be very appreciated. It gets cold up here, we love our tea!

      great site

I think the teapot, the cups and the chahai are all of different clays. Perhaps the cups and chahai do not look so safe. I cannot tell about the teapot from the photographs.

Maybe if you do not need yixing clay, try looking for a Japanese style kyusu. Look for unglazed ones.

I agree with Hokusai. The cups look especially suspicious, like those one can get in some street side cheap curious hawker’s. Kyusu, and for that matter, any other teapots made with a simple, honest clay maybe what you want.

I have a question about this — if the Yixing teapot is to be restricted for one type of tea, don’t the teacups and the chahai have to be too?

people serious in tea not use yixing clay cups, but some use yixing clay chahai for puer. yixing clay cups usually very cheap made with colour chemicals, no good for use.

ok so you are suggesting a Kyusu clay pot set instead? Can you send me a link? I can buy a Yixing pot and not buy the clay cups, I can use regular or porcelain cups.

      Thanks for the responses

Also with the Japanese style kyusu are they teapots to be seasoned, by pouring tea over them and they will smell like the tea over time?

(Mediator edited link site address typo, which originally included ‘….this’ in the link and rendered a wrong address resulting in a 404 error)

All clay teapots can be seasoned, if you take care using them.

That is interesting. Does that mean all kinds of clay tea pot can be used like a Yixing one? As long as they are not glazed?

I think so. Only not so good effect like Yixing clay. May I also point out that the true value of Yixing clay regarding tea infusion is not only maturing to a tea, but more important about infusing the best taste effect of the tea.
