I recently bought a nice pot from Essence of Tea shop. One problem is: it’s somewhat slow pouring. It takes 20 sec to empty 200 ml (water alone; no tea).

What sort of tea would be recommended for such a pot? It’s somewhat pumpkin-shaped: roundish, but with the base a little chubbier than the top.

      Thanks!

This teapot design is basically a traditional pumpkin form. The speed of pouring, however, is not determined by the form, but by the passage of the spout. 20 second for 200 ml is slow.

The speed of pouring affects the control of infusion time. To reduce its influence, use a longer infusion duration.

The material and pot shape affects the infusion manner and thus influence the choice of tea variety. If this pot is what it looks like in the photo, which is a qingshuini, meaning a generic clay, ie a general purpose clay. Such clay is good for toning down astringency, bitterness, and over-firing. It is not good for teas which aromas are key to the taste profiles.

With your description, I think it’s suitable for those tea that need more time to brew for better smell.

I think what Tea Guardian meant is that this pot is more suitable for those teas that are not so dependent on smell for good taste. This pot is not good for those teas that are more reliant on the aroma should not be prepared in this pot.

In general we will use this tea set to bubble tea in China Anxi, it can be a good filter out the tea residue
