I just got a question from a reader who hasn’t signed up yet but was wondering how to get the avatar (i.e. your signature photo) displayed in this forum, cause there seems to be no control to upload one.
I was a bit confused in the beginning myself. It works with a universal avatar recognition service called the Gravatar. It works like this:- Register an e-mail address at the Gravatar site and upload your signature picture(s).
- Use the same email address to register for this forum (Your e-mail address is used for verification only and won’t be shown to other forum members).
- The functionality of this forum software is linked to the Gravatar site to recognize the same e-mail address and to display the corresponding avatar picture, i.e. your signature photo. You don’t have to do anything.
- More and more (except Facebook) social sites are using this service and the cool thing is you can use any pseudonym in any sites, as long as the e-mail registers. You can register a few email addresses too, so you can select which address and which picture for which site.
