@ lamppost, I was trying to post in your topic but it seems not to be working. I am very sorry that there are defects in the packaging. We can immediately replace the products for you. Please send me a private message here or an email reply to any of the order messages we sent you to let me know your customer identity and the products in question.

Thank you for telling about the problem or else we would not be aware of it. We shall re-check the packaging material immediately for defects.

It seems to me the fraying of the seams is natural. There was one when I received one of the packs. As long as the sealing is intact and the tealeaves are not exposed, I think it is okay.

Unfortunately, it was not the case for me.  The sealing of the packages are not intact.  For example, I folded the defect packs 3 times and got the result in the second posted picture.   BTW,  since puerh are not too sensitive to air as Oolong and Green tea are,  I am wondering whether I can still use the “Yiwu Large Leaf”.

I noticed that my “double baked Wuyi Rougui” has a funny smell (a bit grassy.).
      thx.

@ Sara M, thank you for your comment. What you said is true. We did a sample examination across all our Kraft-alu pack stocks and found a fraction percentage of the bags with the problem that lamppost posted. They look normal and intact until we put a lot pressure from the inside and fold them. The same thing happened when we forced it from the outside. However, these two conditions normally do not happen. Perhaps in lamppost’s case, it was certain sudden pressure change during freight or something happen at the customs. We would not be able to find out now but we are changing the stock anyway.

@ lamppost, thank you for your patience and I await your final audit of the total packs that have the problem. As for Yiwa Large Leaf, it should be perfectly okay because during its course of maturity, we have to take it out periodically for “airing” anyway. However, please do not expose it all the time like people in teashops in China do.
In the case of double baked Wuyi Rougui, it sounds strange to me. Did the grassy smell happen before the leaves were infused, or did it happen during or after infusion? Is it one of the packs that was exposed? We were drinking the tea the week before last during lunch and it was like it has always been since we thought it was ready, but shall further examine it later today or tomorrow with Leo. Thank you for pointing it out.

@Siu, thanks for the information about the puerh.  It is a good news since my stock is running low :-).

Regarding the “double baked Wuji Rougui”, yes it is one of the packs that was exposed.  The grassy smell I found after the leaves were infused.  I assumed that the cold air from the air plane I took last week got into the package and changed the tea. I will try again to verify my taste bud.
FYI, I kept all packages in the original paper box; however, I did rearrange them few times when packing for my trip.  Your findings explain a lot, and I strongly believe that you found the root cause.  I will send you a PM when I could verify the other packages.
For now, I am happy  that I don’t need to invest on new tea containers; I like the idea reusing the kraft alu pack.
      Thx Siu

I will also examine mine when they arrive a few weeks from now.  So far I have not noticed any defects, but a minority of my selections have been in these packs.

My Congu’s seam split today while extracting some leaves.  Will keep an eye on the others.

Thank you for taking care to report about the alu pack. We have switched the batch already and shall look for a new supplier for  more reliable quality. Apologies if this has caused any inconvenience.
