Yuen yeung is a must have item in the drink menu in all local tea cafes. My father likes it with condensed sweet milk. He said for the workers, this kind of drinks is a most vital refreshment for the day. I think it gives a lot of calories for the needed energy and enough caffeine to keep the mind awake in the morning or when it is almost the end of the work day (afternoon tea!). It is still a favourite for many many people, esp men who do labour work, drivers, builders and courier people etc, even those property salespeople too. Even some of my colleagues order it for afternoon tea too.

It is very strong and dense. I can see why it is liked by so many men. I think it is a very unique HK drink even though I do not like it myself.

LOL that’s Mandarin too! Original in Cantonese: Lei si dou loi, the naughty second sentence of saying the New Year wish: Gong hei fat choi. So the complete saying goes: Gong hei fat choi, lei si dou loi.

That’s teasing among kids only 😉

I am sorry to be impolite, but mm goi sai is said only when someone has done something for you, like opening the door, or letting you out in the elevator, or helping you with something big or small. To say thank you for sharing something has many terms. Maybe a simple one is “doh jie”   😛

Starbucks and Pacific Coffee are the only two places where I can spend a little money and sit for as long as I want and try to be relaxed. I know their coffee and tea are not good, but there are no other facilities in the city like that. Hong Kong rent is too too too high!

I’d love to learn about the use of all those special teaware! Do you have classes about that?
