Not completely unappealing, but isn’t necessarily a large improvement over a simple tea ball. And it’s pretty expensive to boot.

Tea bag is one way to sell broken leaves massively with the false perception of being a more economical product. People are buying the cost of packafging: not environmental friendly and originally not needed. Whole leaves or even near whole leaves are easy to clean in the teapot or mug or gaiwan. That is why there is no need for teabag if the right tea selection and the right tea ware. Better for environment, better for overall cost, better for taste, better for health. Most important thing: many materials used in teabags or similar things not good for health.

Agreed with both of you. I actually searching for a good steeping mug myself, as I think they’d produce better tea than my current mug + tea ball set up.
I suppose the convenience is there, as it’s pre-measured. Not everyone wants to measure out tea, though I don’t think it takes much effort. I do need to get myself a small scale for the work desk, though. I keep putting that off.
I think this product is trying to bank on the appeal of being “clever” looking. Most modern people (that I know) are very neophillic. If an old way exists, they will invariably select the new because it is new.

Traditional real quality tea used to be “new” to me and I admit that there was this “discovery” euphoria when I first found Tea Guardian and then Tea Hong. However, it is quality and compatibility that keep me drinking all these wonderful teas today. I think this idea applied for most things in life, don’t you think?

Not interested. We have enough “plastic” in our diet..but to put hot water on plastic and then drink it is crazy. Plastics in the body mimic estrogen..and people wonder why we have so many estrogen dominant cancers? papers have chlorides which interfere with thyroid. And this must have clue to hold this thing together. Its a wonder you taste the Tea..LOL !

I am not good in those science things. I just heard from people saying this and believe it is logical. The fiber used for making the ‘cloth’ in teabag has to be held together with something to last the steeping and hot water. They said it is something like plastic. I never trust plastic for high temperature things. Maybe Leo can explain this more accurately.
