ParticipantIf you are looking for a teashop, Ying Kee (英記茶莊)is the easiest to find one and quite consistent in price and quality. There should be one in Tsimshatsui on the Kowloon side. Although they give you no surprise in selection and always make a good profit margin, it’s more reliable than a few other shop with branches in Kowloon.
As for Zhongshan, I did not have any good experience there in shopping: most teashops in commercial areas either have very unreliable quality or ridiculous prices. However, tea serving in the hotel restaurant (as well as the dimsum) in Zhongshan Bin Guan (中山賓館)is a pleasant surprise. The tea is acceptable quality and the service and price are good. I have not been there for a few years now, but last time special order of gongfu service was around 20 RMB for a tea. -

ParticipantSorry I missed out on this one. In case you do not mind going over to the Hong Kong side, I have a few teashops to recommend. They are all in Sheung Wan, quite near the MTR station:
嶢陽茶行, 林奇苑茶行, 顏奇香茶莊 all on or near 文咸東街 (Bonham Strand East). The second one is most recommendable for their wider selections.I hope if you have explore shops in Zhongshan, you have got some quality selections. Normally shops where tourists have access in China are really not too reliable, but there always are exceptions. I do not personally know of any there though. Have just seen ridiculous ones.Good luck shopping! -

ParticipantIf you are still interested, I can recommend Lau Yu Fat in Lok Fu, HK. As far as I remember they have a good assortment, and I found them very knowledgeable when I was in HK three years ago.

ParticipantSimilar quality and range as offered by this Lau Yu Fat are actually available in many smaller teashops throughout different neighborhoods in Hong Kong. Some maybe selling at lower prices. They are generally not in expensive malls as this one is, so they are much more difficult to locate fro tourists.

ParticipantHi guysSorry for insanely late reply! In our hotel room whilst we were in HK earlier my boyfriend and I happened to watch a documentary being aired of TV on Yixing and their production of clay teapots. They made particular mention of distinguishing between real and fake Yixing teapots. I think to be able to distinguish between the two takes more than a couple of weeks though. So when we were in Zhongshan my boyfriend and I were very skeptical of the authenticity of the teaware, particularly the teapots, and we found that it is true that the prices were quite expensive. In the end we didn’t buy any. 🙁
