Hello all, I read in the discussion about digestion and bowel there is the mentioning to use puer cakes (or ‘discus’ as Leo likes to put call it). This reminds me of a trend going on in China which they call ‘technical ageing’ (技術倉). Puer cakes come out of it looking very clean and dark and no strange smell, but people say it is achieved by spraying mouldy cakes with some sort of chemical spray. I do not know much about this other than hearing it from a couple of friends and a China shop owner whom I have known of years, but it sounds quite terrifying so I think I better let you all know.

Right! One more chemical scam from China. I used to fancy buying one of these at least as a decoration, but after reading Leo’s articles about cheating in compressed puer, I have not been interested in it since. The more I hear about such news, the more I stay with reliable merchants like Leo.

      🙁

Sinister things like that never cease to happen as long as greed is unchecked in human nature.

Do you think such tainted products would have reached the North America?

This makes me wonder if that really cheap shupu cake I had might have been adulterated in some way.

I have never been confident in buying compressed puer, now after reading this, this item surely appears a lot more distant away from me. I really don’t see the point of the cake in the first place.

Spraying with such things, likely to be something with H2O2, is minor if you understand how some of such products are produced outside of official visits or invited tours. Some so-called properly matured products could be piled next to pig-sties and sprayed with dirty water for moulding. They are then sprayed with mould-killers, wiped with dirty wet cloths and then baked dry again. Whatever imitation old wrapping paper and labels are produced by a large army of proficient forgery industry. The margin for such products is simply ridiculous for the over-populated criminals on the Chinese soil not to do things nasty to get the bucks.

Well…that certainly removes my desire to buy much shu!

I frequent TeaChat, and the talk of counterfeiting abounds.  This only makes the idea worse.

What authority issued these “alimentary safety” signs? If they are from China, forget about it. Labels and even certificates from China are meaningless. I have learned this the hard way.

NOt this sign is alimentary international sign i believe they will not go that far to falsify even that.
