A friend who is also a client returned from Korea with a black tea that is wrapped and compressed in cloth much like a toucha. He said it was fermented after it is so wrapped. This is the first time I see this tea. Is there anyone out there who know more about this? I want to gather as much info as possible about it. Want very much to write about it.
Watch out, new member here ;-)I first saw this tea when I was in Korea this last Spring (May 2011). It’s called Ddok Cha, or 떡차 if you want to be correct. MattCha’s Blog has a lot of info on it. Here’s a link to save you time:
The page is from newst post to oldest, so it’s probably best to stay with the timeline and read the bottom story first and move up to the top.-Eric Glass
Thx for the info. The name of the compressed tea I have certainly have the same name, though it appears somewhat differently than those in the blog. I’ll show the photo in the review article later. I actually did a bit of search about that tea and found quite a few people discussed it. I just really want to hear something from the producer. By the way, that Mattcha blog is good, and welcome to the forum!
I was able to taste one, pretty good, but they were not willing to sell any. When you attain some, could you sell me some? Or let me know how to attain some? No pressure. It just makes me sad that I might not taste it for awhile. Not sure when I’ll return to S. Korea, I don’t like to spend too much on travel, nor do I have much.-Eric
I have one such tea ball from a trade friend and not quite sure if I am able to source the tea for any purposes in the coming few months. Korean teas have always been extremely expensive to get and not a great idea for trading. I’ll update the status anyway if I get any.
