In the “the difference of shengcha puer and puer” article of this site, Leo mentioned that green tea is the potent tea for bowel regularity. In my own experience, I don’t feel too good drinking green tea after food. Charcoal style oolong is much more comforting and gives that sense of relaxation in the stomach. Leo also mentioned puer is good for that, but I have not found that as appetizing as the oolong or green tea. Any insights for sharing?

What green tea, and what puer did you have? How did you brew them?

It was Itoen Yame Sencha for green tea and Yunnan Qi Zi Bing Cha for puer. I may not be an expert in tea but I do know 70C for sencha and 100C for puer.

This is a very good question! I have problems with sencha too! However, the same issues rarely happen with green tea since I switched to Longjing and drink it in the afternoon, following Leo’s recommendation in this link: https://www.teaguardian.com/what-is-tea/green-tea-taste-health-tips.html#.UpQJ1pHVof8

I don’t know about the puer you mentioned, but I use Menghai Spring exclusively now, and mostly after lunch and dinner. Make it in a Yixing pot and the taste fab!

I much like oolongs after eating. I like especially Phoenix Honey Orchid for that. I think if you drink a lot of tea, there is no problem with bowel movement  😀

Yunnan Qi Zi Bing Cha is a common name and many are not good quality. Many are poorly storaged so quality is worse. Also not all people like even good puer so it is hard to say. The same is for green tea. Not all people like green tea. Sencha is not very good for stomach especially after meal or when tea is cold. Longjing is better because it is fried (Leo says roasted) so not so severe to the stomach. Weaker stomachs better drink green tea in afternoon. I agree with that.

@zachno, you really don’t need to drink green tea after food for the bowel assistance effect. I actually advise people green tea should not be the tea after proper meals. Try it in the morning or in the afternoon, or even with milk and sugar.

Other than puer, another tea great for the purpose is the category of greener oolongs, including green style Tieguanyin and Taiwan oolongs, bouquet style Phoenix, light fire Wuyi etc. No need to drink them gongfu way. The 1 to 100 desktop mug will do.
Let me know if there is progress.

I think green tea is good, but more important is more water, more sleep, more exercise, less junk, grease, and deep-frying in food!
