ParticipantHi, I have been drinking a high grade ginseng oolong for some years and now I just read from your site that it is not a good tea because of the kind of material and processes. I also just realized that it is not ginseng but only licorice. I am a little unhappy to know that and suddenly realized why the taste is so familiar but I could not point out what it is. Now I understand. Please let me know if there is any health issues about it or is it just an over priced tea.

ParticipantI was also drinking ginseng oolong for a few years too. However, I learned that was not good from some famous tea shop owner and stopped it for a year now. That was Leo Kwan! I was so happy to find this web site and can read about his idea again!
He described the steps in making ginseng oolong and even if it is hygienic, it is not that appealing to me after knowing it.There are so many other oolongs with different tastes. It is not necessary to drink one with licorice powder. -

ParticipantPlease recommend a good oolong, but not strong like Chiu Chow Tit Koon Yam. I like a bit of bitterness but not too much. I also like good smelling but not like flowers.

ParticipantAnd for those of us unable (yet) to take a hop over to Hong Kong, what is this process that makes it unappealing?

ParticipantHygiene. This is a questionable aspect in those manufacturers that I have seen.
And while I may use licorice roots in some of my cooking and herbal drinks, I am not so fond of using it in my daily tea. -
